Ashbourne Triathlon by Nick Polmear

The very first Ashbourne Sprint Triathlon was on Sunday 11th May.

Standard 400 meter indoor swim, 15km bike & 5km run (400mtr tunnel & Trail)

It was a cold, wet & rainy day, turned up late and the racks weren’t numbered for your bike, so my bike was racked furthest from the Bike start but closet to the run start!

Swim started off fast then people in other lanes were keeping pace doing breast stroke! The bike course was described as fairly flat (Yeh, if you’re used to riding in the peaks!)

Came into transition and forgot where I had left my trainers, quick flap, found trainers then off on the run and the first 400 meters is through a tunnel (great no rain)

Ashbourne2Reached turnaround after climb up a small hill and gave the marshals a big smile who then said don’t smile its only your first lap, forgot it was 2 laps.

Finished 167 of 380 and 4th in class (Yes there were more then 4 in my class) It was really well run Tri and the marshals were great and half of Ashbourne was closed for the race
