The Club doesn’t run its own open water session, however there are several open water venues available locally. Most venues are open from about May to September dependent on water temperature. Cliff Lakes also runs a cold water swim session throughout the winter. Details of all these are below. Check our training calendar to see what’s open and check with the venue to make sure nothing has changed before you set out.
Anyone considering open water swimming should be able to swim at least 800m continuously. We advise that you speak to one of the Club coaches before attending for the first time and read the terms and conditions of the organising Club for the venue where you intend to swim. Juniors (under 16) should contact the organising Club before attending.
At most venues it is compulsory to swim in a wetsuit and other conditions may apply. Some venues require swimmers to have NOWCA membership before they swim; others require swimmers to sign a declaration before swimming for the first time each year. These forms are usually available to download from the organising Club’s website.
